Touchstone Energy Scholar of the Week
KSFY newscast announced the Touchstone Energy Scholar of the Week for January 15 – 21, 2017, is Evan Steers, a senior at Miller High School whose work has earned him a 3.98 grade point average.
Evan plays in the Jazz Band and he is a member of the Student Council. He also plays Football and runs Track and on Sundays, he teaches Sunday School at his church.
When you talk to Evan Steers you get the sense that he is the type of person that likes to get things done.
For example when we asked him what he says to freshmen who are just starting their high school careers, this is what Evan told us. “Work hard. Don’t let your grades slip right now. They’re still important to you even though you are a freshman. They’ll come back to bite you if you don’t. Work hard now.”
As for why Evan does as well in school as he does, his response is straightforward. “I work hard in pretty much everything I do. Make sure to study and get enough sleep.”
What Evan has done here at Miller High School has earned the admiration and appreciation of school principal Steve Schumacher. “Evan is our student body president. He has had a 4.0 throughout high school. As student body president he does a lot of school leadership things.”
Dakota Energy’s Member Service Representative Greg Palmer was at Miller High School to present Evan with a $100 check as part of being selected for this honor. Evan will also be eligible to win a scholarship at the Scholar of the Week Banquet this spring.
Evan is the son of Bob and Diane Steers of Miller, S.D.
