Dakota Energy offers cash for college
Dakota Energy is offering $5,000 worth of scholarships to eligible graduating high school seniors. The application deadline is 4:30 p.m. on Friday, February 5, 2018.
Applications will be judged on the basis of grades, ACT or SAT test scores, work experience, school activities, volunteer community services, and an essay question. The majority of the scholarship funding comes from Dakota Energy Cooperative with additional monies coming from Basin Electric Power Cooperative.
To be eligible, you must: 1) Be a graduating high school senior. 2) Plan to be a full-time student in an accredited college or vocational-technical school this fall. 3) Be a child of a Dakota Energy member. 4) Have a 3.0 or higher cumulative GPA. 5) Provide written recommendations from a teacher, administrator or counselor.
Two of the scholarships are specifically for future linemen and electricians who attend Mitchell Technical Institute. Since 2008, Dakota Energy has offered a $1,000 scholarship for a student who is enrolled in the Power Line Construction and Maintenance Program. Recently, the Board of Directors added a new $1,000 scholarship for a student who attends the Electrical Construction and Maintenance Program for the 2018-2019 academic year. Applications are available from your school counselor, from Dakota Energy Cooperative offices, or on the web site at www.dakotaenergy.coop.
